November is best known for Thanksgiving, but it is also known as American Diabetes Month. A time to communicate the seriousness of diabetes and the importance of proper diabetes control. Why should one care about diabetes? Throughout the month, the American Diabetes Association leverages opportunities both nationally and locally to raise awareness about diabetes and its serious complications such as heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, blindness and amputations. Here at the Center we have a diabetes group that meets every second Friday of every month at 10 a.m. with our Nurse, Cheryl Lowes. These meetings include speakers from Hoag Hospital, cooking lessons, and discussions. For more information, please call the Center. Mr. Surat Singh, owner of Angel's Auto Spa in Costa Mesa, will once again be sponsoring our Thanksgiving lunch on Wednesday, November 26, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. We'll be serving our traditional Thanksgiving fixings such as succulent turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and pumpkin and apple pie. Mr. Surat feels it is important to remember our seniors and be thankful for all they've given to our community and the lunch is his way of giving back. Reservations for the Thanksgiving lunch are a MUST! Make reservations at the front desk. The cost is $5.00 per person and we have limited space. Also in November we will have our Health Fair on Tuesday, November 18, when we will be giving influenza shots from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Make sure to mark your calendar. Remember this is Election year, don't forget every vote counts.
Thankfully, It's November!
